Thelema Lodge Calendar
Expands to Reach O.T.O.
World-Wide

The Thelema Lodge Northern California events Calendar has extended free circulation to include listed official O.T.O. bodies World-Wide. Whenever possible, the Thelema Lodge Calendar will be included in Official Body mailings of the Magical Link, with the extra postage being met out of pocket. From time to time O.T.O. Official bodies will also receive a supplement from the GTG or other Grand Lodge officers by this same means. In this way a routine mailing of timely information will be established for all the official bodies of the Order. When the information is of general interest, and not just for Lodges, Oases, Chapters, Camps and Tribes of O.T.O., it will also find its way into the pages of the Thelema Lodge Calendar. Thelema Lodge continues to extend service to the general benefit of the O.T.O., as well as O.T.O. and friends in the Northern California Area.

Other regions can follow suit with calendars and limited World-Wide service to O.T.O. and Grand Lodge. Grand Lodge can help with planning and canvassing for creation and use of publications of this kind. Contact the Grand Treasurer General at the business address: ...

If more O.T.O. regions consolidate their events-calendars, the Order will make it into the next stage of its growth. That stage should see exponential growth and greater local autonomy internationally as well as within regions of high O.T.O. membership, like the USA and CANADA. This will lead in time to Xth degree heads for the countries and possibly for provinces within some countries. Regional Calendars are the best way to start this phase of O.T.O. growth in your area. Thelema and O.T.O. are based on recognition of individual ability and accomplishment. Communicate, advertise and provide services. Otherwise O.T.O. can only remain limited and dependent on a few people at Grand Lodge for its unity.

Thelema Lodge leads the way. Let's make it a race! Pull ahead with your own local calendar of events. Share space with other groups. Extend the Peace of the Temple to help pull together services for O.T.O. members and the general public. Advertise each other's products, services and monthly mailings just as you see here. Share the expenses to keep the costs low or free to individual O.T.O. members and interested general public in your area. You can extend circulation outside the immediate area by charging costs to people who want to receive the mailing, but are not likely to be able to attend events and support by local donation.

Grand Lodge News

The Magical Link will probably skip a date to improve timing. This means that O.T.O. members will likely be receiving an "October" issue immediately after the "August" issue, with no issue marked "September, 1986 e.v.". No actual delay or loss of copies will result. This is just a change in the name of the current month to reflect more closely the time the publication arrives. If it is not done with the next issue, it will likely be done soon after. Some of the members will otherwise be receiving the December issue in February!

If you don't receive the O.T.O. Grand Lodge publication, the Magical Link, it's probably because you are not a member. The Magical Link is the international monthly for O.T.O. It is type-set, runs to 8 letter-sized pages and provides interesting articles, reports and offerings of O.T.O. and Thelemic products from every country where O.T.O. is active. A list of contact addresses for O.T.O. is a regular part of the Magical Link. You don't have to take initiation to receive it. $10 per year for Associate Membership in O.T.O. will bring the Magical Link to your door with 10 to 12 issues a year. If you are no longer active in O.T.O., you can still take out Associate Membership and keep up on events. Start the Magical Link coming to you: write to O.T.O., ... and include $10 with your request to become an Associate member of O.T.O. If you already get the Magical Link, how about a donation to Grand Lodge?

O.T.O. Initiates and Associates who owe dues in the USA will be receiving bills in September. Pay now before they go up! The length of time an O.T.O. initiate above Minerval can go without paying dues and still remain active is being decreased, and discussions are taking place with an eye to increasing dues in the Minerval through Ist or IInd Degree at some time in the future.

This Month at Thelema Lodge.

Gnostic Masses at Thelema Lodge are held in our refurbished Temple room, with comfortable side seating in classic style. For best access phone (415) 655-4942 or 524-0735 a day or two ahead. Thelema Lodge under Hymenaeus Alpha was the first O.T.O. group to provide regular Gnostic Masses in the SF Bay area, with a Mass every weekend from 1977 through the Greater Feast of the Past Grand Master in 1985 e.v. During those eight years we had many locations for the Mass, starting in Grady's living room, then across to the store front on San Pablo Ave in Berkeley. After that, Thelema Lodge moved to a 1,000 square foot area in Emeryville for a few years. That location evaporated in the wake of strange accusations from the X'ers in the building, and we moved to 8th Street in Oakland. A catastrophically leaky roof and the costs of the Motta suit forced us back into living rooms through the end of Grady's life, and Ankh af na Khonsu Lodge later emerged at the location of the last Gnostic Masses of Grady's tenure. Thelema Lodge remained the Grand Lodge for a time, but with a sharply decreased meeting and Mass schedule. After the re-creation of Agape Lodge as the Grand Lodge under Grand Master Beta, Thelema Lodge continued under several Grand Lodge officers, past and present.

Today Thelema Lodge continues to offer classes, initiations, rituals Gnostic Masses and other events in the tradition of O.T.O.

The Gnostic Mass is conducted in a variety of ways in different places, with some locations substituting the signs of the degrees for the normal gestures mandated in the Mass. Only the O.T.O. groups in the SF Bay area have had the continuous benefit of instruction in the Mass by O.T.O. members who saw the Mass regularly when Crowley was alive. That's not to say that the others are "Brand X", but it's good to know that a slice of history lives on at Thelema Lodge. There's always room for variation and improvement, with three variant sources of the Mass published by Crowley in The International, Blue Equinox and Magick in Theory and Practice.

Come to Thelema Lodge and see the living Mass! Participate in the veil of the IXth that the Mass really is. Transubstantiate yourself!

The Magick in Theory and Practice series continues with Bill Heidrick on September 10th and 17th at Thelema Lodge. On the 10th we will continue from the early part of Chapter V with instruction in Crowley's method and use of the formulas that were his major original contribution to Magick. We have taken up the formulas

and others, including IAO. In the classes this month the formulas

and

(the sexual formulas and the formula of the Abyss) will follow further work on FIAOF. Beyond that the actual techniques of High Magick and ritual will open before the student of the Mysteries. Come and learn the parts not in the book! The oral tradition goes on.

Frater Anpu/Ebony continues his remarkable Egyptiana series on the 27th. This is the best chance you are likely to get to learn the living deities of Liber AL. Don't miss it!

On the 21st, Thelema Lodge will hold a BYO? Equinox Party and informal Lodge Meeting. Now that we have settled in to some extent, it's time to firm up plans for the future. Planning and financing need your input. Dues, Donations, or Pledges; what's your pleasure? What would you like to see at Thelema Lodge? Have a good time and help design the future of Thelema by the Bay. Turn up at the Equinox event!

Enochian classes also start at Thelema Lodge in September. The series is presented by Brother Dave, who has studied Dee's own MSS from the microfilm archives we have out of the British Museum collection. Typographic errors and gross omissions occur in all the major published sources of Enochiana. Only by a return to the original materials can a true perspective be gained. At last you have it! Live, learn and summon!
